Nigerian Army Deployed to Restore Order After Terrorist Attack Leaves 15 Dead

The Nigerian army has been mobilized to restore calm in Mera, a town in northwest Nigeria’s Kebbi State in response to a deadly attack by an emerging terrorist group.

The assault, which left 15 people dead and saw over 100 cows stolen, took place as residents were preparing for a congregational prayer.

Local leader Alhaji Bashir Mera confirmed the incident, stating that community members pursued the attackers into the forest, resulting in a gunfight.

Following the tragedy, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Umar Tafida, visited Mera to express condolences and assured residents of the government’s commitment to pursuing justice for the victims.

All 15 deceased were buried in accordance with Islamic customs, with local authorities continuing to monitor the security situation.
