Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported a major crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse over the past 30 months, achieving 45,853 arrests, seizing more than 8.5 million kilograms of illicit drugs, and securing 9,263 convictions .
The announcement came as NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), presented commendation letters and awards to 220 officers for outstanding service, while 15 senior officers received promotions.
Marwa praised the agency’s personnel for maintaining integrity and courage in tackling the country’s drug problem. He highlighted their efforts in counseling 26,613 drug users and conducting 9,848 public awareness campaigns nationwide.
While celebrating these results, Marwa cautioned that drug abuse and trafficking remain major threats to Nigeria’s social stability, economy, and national security, calling for continued vigilance and dedication.
The agency also acknowledged support from international partners, including the UNODC, UK Border Force, and the governments of France and Germany, which have helped strengthen Nigeria’s anti-drug efforts.
