The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of Nigeria has arrested multiple suspects in connection with large-scale seizures of narcotics, including tramadol, cannabis, methamphetamine, and other psychoactive substances, in operations across the country.
An Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, and three Nigerian accomplices—Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb; were arrested following the interception of 2,248,000 tramadol pills (200mg/225mg) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The shipment, worth an estimated N3,990,000,000 (approximately $2.6 Million)in street value, was imported from Delhi, India, disguised as multi-vitamins in 114 cartons. NDLEA officers, who had the consignment under surveillance, intercepted two trucks attempting to transport it out of the airport. The businessman was later arrested while trying to take delivery of the consignment.
In addition to the Lagos airport bust, NDLEA conducted operations nationwide resulting in the seizure of large quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other new psychoactive substances. Hundreds of kilograms of skunk and Canadian Loud cannabis were recovered from shipments at ports, vehicles, factories, and plantations in Lagos, Edo, Ogun, Kano, Anambra, Yobe, and Oyo States.
Multiple arrests involved methamphetamine, tramadol, and other controlled substances. Factories producing skuchies, a cannabis-infused drink, and other novel substances were raided, with thousands of bottles and kilograms of raw materials seized.
Drugs hidden in courier packages, video players, picture frames, and other cargo were also intercepted, with some shipments destined for the United Arab Emirates and Gabon.
