Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the activities of the alleged Presidential Council for the Promotion of Foreign Intervention (PFIPC), describing it as a fictitious body with no legal or official backing.
According to the presidency, the council was never established by the federal government.
The ICPC has been given 30 days to complete its investigation and submit a comprehensive report.
The probe focuses on Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who allegedly posed as the council’s Director General and is accused of forging appointment letters and official documents to give the organization legitimacy.
Investigators will also examine allegations that the fake appointment was used to obtain official recognition, diplomatic support, visa facilitation, and the opening of bank accounts using forged government documents.
Authorities say the suspect is currently on the run, although he has denied the allegations and says he intends to defend himself in court.
President Tinubu has instructed all federal ministries, departments, and agencies to cooperate fully with investigators, stressing that anyone found guilty of identity theft, document forgery, or abuse of public office will face the full weight of the law.
