Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a stern warning to nightclub owners and partygoers following a major raid on a Lagos nightclub accused of hosting a “drug party,” an emerging trend the agency says is illegal and harmful to public health.
The operation, conducted between Saturday night and early Sunday morning (October 25 – 26), targeted a Night Club in the country’s commercial city of Lagos. More than 100 people were detained, including the club’s owner, socialite Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and his manager, Joachin Millary.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said operatives seized 384.886 kilograms of “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, along with other illicit substances found in the club’s storage area.
According to the NDLEA, undercover agents had monitored the event for hours before launching the raid, documenting drug sales and open use inside the club.
The agency said it had obtained intelligence and even conducted test purchases of narcotics from the venue prior to the operation.
All attendees were briefly detained, profiled, and released after counseling, in line with international best practices. However, Pretty Mike and his manager remain in custody and are expected to face prosecution.
