Over twenty Ivorian Opposition Forms Coalition for 2025 Presidential Election

Over twenty opposition political parties in Côte d’Ivoire have formed a new coalition ahead of the October 2025 presidential election.

Named the Coalition for Peaceful Alternation in Côte d’Ivoire (Cap-Côte d’Ivoire), the alliance was officially launched on Monday at the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) in Abidjan.

The coalition, however, does not include the party of former President Laurent Gbagbo, the PPA-CI. Key opposition figures in Cap-Côte d’Ivoire include former Prime Minister Pascal Affi N’guessan, leader of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), and former Minister Blé Goudé Charles, head of the Pan-African Congress for Justice and Equality of Peoples (Cojep).

The coalition is led by Tidjane Thiam, president of the PDCI, while former First Lady Simone Ehivet, leader of the Mouvement des Générations Capables (MGC), serves as its spokesperson.

Cap-Côte d’Ivoire aims to push for electoral reforms that ensure inclusive, free, fair, and transparent elections, uphold democracy, and promote national reconciliation.

Simone Ehivet stressed the need for a national dialogue on electoral issues, warning that the upcoming election is at risk of repeating past electoral crises.

Tidjane Thiam reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to peaceful political transition in Côte d’Ivoire, advocating for open and competitive elections where all candidates are free to contest.
