Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has confirmed the first case of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in the capital, Dakar, specifically in the Keur Massar district, signaling the spread of the epidemic beyond its initial outbreak zones.
Since the start of the epidemic, the country has recorded 196 confirmed cases, including 21 deaths and 147 recoveries.
The Saint-Louis region remains the most affected, accounting for 179 cases, with Richard-Toll alone recording 105. Other regions impacted include Matam, Louga, and Fatick.
In addition to RVF, Senegal is also confronting a resurgence of monkeypox (MPOX), with six confirmed and two probable cases reported in the Dakar region.
Eight patients have recovered, and no deaths have been recorded so far, while 22 contacts are under medical observation.
The Ministry of Health has urged the public to maintain vigilance, follow preventive guidelines, and cooperate closely with healthcare and community workers to help curb the spread of both diseases.
