Senegal and Vietnam Deepen Ties with New Agreements

Senegal and Vietnam have taken significant steps to strengthen their bilateral relations through a series of strategic agreements signed in Dakar on Wednesday.

The accords cover various sectors including diplomatic cooperation, agriculture, rice trade, foreign affairs, and food sovereignty.

The signing ceremony was jointly led by Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and Vietnam’s National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man.

It followed a private meeting between the two leaders. Tran Thanh Man, who is leading a high-level delegation of over 100 members – including government ministers – is in Senegal for an official visit from July 22 to 24.

Earlier in the day, a memorandum of understanding on parliamentary cooperation was signed between Tran Thanh Man and his Senegalese counterpart, El Hadj Malick Ndiaye.

Ndiaye emphasized the value of parliamentary diplomacy as a complement to traditional state-to-state relations. Thanh Man echoed this sentiment, highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to building trust through increased exchanges and collaboration between government bodies, institutions, and businesses.

The Senegalese Presidency later described the visit as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

This visit builds on recent discussions between Prime Minister Sonko and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, which took place during the World Economic Forum in Tianjin, China, in June 2025. Both sides expressed a shared ambition to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
