The Senegalese government has begun major reforms to modernize its Labor and Social Security Codes with the goal of providing stronger protection for workers, including those in the informal sector.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye made the announcement during the opening of the fourth edition of the Social Conference on Employment and Employability in Diamniadio, emphasizing the need for collective action to tackle youth employment through training, skills development, and entrepreneurship.
The reforms align with the Ministry of Labor’s earlier commitments to finalize new regulatory frameworks, including extending social protection to migrant workers.
The Minister of Vocational Training highlighted a forthcoming “Major Vocational Training Offensive” to prepare youth for economic integration.
Meanwhile, the president of the National Confederation of Employers of Senegal (CNES), Adama Lam, urged the government to foster a more cooperative relationship with the private sector.
He criticized the burdensome administrative controls on businesses, calling for smarter regulatory enforcement to avoid stifling economic activity while ensuring legal compliance.
