Senegalese authorities over the weekend arrested twelve individuals in connection with serious offences involving the deliberate transmission of HIV and endangering the lives of others.
The Keur Massar Research Brigade led the operation, targeting suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, unnatural acts, voluntary transmission of HIV through unprotected sexual activity, and putting others at risk.
The investigation began after a tip-off about an HIV-positive individual who continued to engage in unprotected sex, leading to the arrest of the main suspect on February 4, 2026.
Subsequent investigations resulted in the detention of eleven more people over the following days, with all suspects contacted primarily through WhatsApp groups.
Medical screening revealed that six of the arrested tested positive for HIV, two are awaiting confirmation, and four tested negative.
Authorities reported that some of the individuals were aware of their HIV-positive status but continued sexual activity.
The National Gendarmerie confirmed that the probe is ongoing to dismantle the network and determine the responsibilities of all involved, highlighting the serious public health risks associated with deliberate HIV transmission.
