Senegalese President Faye Votes, Urges Calm as Legislative Elections Progress

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye cast his vote few minutes ago, urging citizens to remain calm and embrace democratic principles as the early legislative elections unfold.

Addressing the media in Ndiaganiao, a suburb of the Thiès Region in west-central Senegal, President Faye emphasized the importance of responsible political conduct.

“Democratic maturity means responsible actors confronting each other through ideas and programs, addressing the people with respect and serenity, and allowing them to choose,” he stated.

The President also called on voters, candidates, and political leaders to remain calm and accept the election results, which he described as an integral part of the democratic process.

He reiterated Senegal’s reputation as a democratic “exception,” underscoring the nation’s obligation to uphold this standing in the eyes of the international community.

On this election day, over seven million registered voters are heading to the polls to select 165 deputies for the country’s 15th legislature.

This election marks a significant milestone, coming just eight months after President Faye’s own election.

A total of 41 political lists are competing in the contest.
