Senegalese Women Jurists Gain Observer Status at ACHPR

The Association of Senegalese Women Jurists (AJS) has secured observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), marking a new step in its efforts to promote and protect human rights across the continent.

The announcement was made by the association’s president, Aminata Fall Niang, during the commission’s 89th session, held in Dakar.

The recognition gives the association a stronger platform to advocate for human rights, particularly the rights of women and children, within regional and international forums.

Fall Niang said the new status would enable the organisation to strengthen its advocacy and increase its participation in discussions and decision-making processes in Senegal, across Africa and internationally.

She also acknowledged the support of Lawyers Without Borders Canada (ASFC), a partner of the association, for its assistance throughout the application process.

The AJS said it would use its new standing to advance access to justice, equality and the protection of women’s and children’s rights.
