The Court of Appeal in Sierra Leone has issued a Bench Warrant for Mohamed Kamarianba Mansaray, a notable political figure and leader of the opposition Alliance Democratic Party (ADP).
The bench warrant was issued as part of a ruling on Thursday after Kamarainaba Mansaray failed to appear in court.
This decision comes after the Court of Appeal had previously announced that it would convene to hear Mansaray’s appeal regarding his 2021 conviction for serious misconduct involving a minor on on February 20 at the Law Courts Building in Freetown. Notifications of the hearing had been duly served to both the state and Mansaray’s legal representatives.
Mansaray was reportedly sentenced to a lengthy prison term following his conviction but chose to file an appeal. Despite having been permitted to travel abroad for medical reasons several months ago, Mansaray’s non-appearance in court led to the issuance of a bench warrant for both his surety, Isha Baby Mansaray, and himself as the appellant/convict.
The case has now been adjourned to Thursday, February 27, 2025, signaling a continuation of the legal proceedings surrounding this significant matter.
