The Ivorian Government to Pay Outstanding Dues Following Electoral Commission Dissolution

Côte d’Ivoire has assured former employees, contractors and suppliers of the dissolved Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) that all outstanding financial obligations will be settled through transitional measures put in place by the government.

Speaking after the Council of Ministers meeting on June 3, government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly said the dissolution of the electoral body does not affect the state’s responsibility to honor existing commitments, including salaries and payments owed to service providers.

The CEI was dissolved by President Alassane Ouattara on May 6, 2026, as part of plans to establish a new electoral management framework intended to inspire greater confidence among political stakeholders.

According to the government, transitional mechanisms have been activated to ensure that all pending financial matters are resolved before the institution is fully phased out.

Authorities say the future electoral structure will be designed to provide a more inclusive and reassuring system for managing elections in the country.
