The Electoral Commission (CENI) in Togo has announced that applications for the July 10, 2025, municipal elections will be accepted from May 20 to May 29. Eligible candidates include political parties, coalitions, and independents.
To qualify, applicants must be Togolese, at least 25 years old on the day of submission, able to read, write, and speak the official language, enjoy full civil and political rights, have lived in Togo for at least six months, and must not be under any disqualification.
CENI will make candidacy forms available at local electoral offices starting May 12 and will automatically reject incomplete submissions.
A provisional receipt will be issued upon application, and a final receipt will be granted to the lead candidate after deposit payment.
Municipal councillors will be elected through direct universal suffrage using a blocked list system with proportional representation.
Each candidate list must exceed the number of seats by one-quarter, and elected candidates will be declared in the order listed.
The deposit fee is set at CFA50,000, but women will pay half the amount to encourage greater female participation.
