Two Killed, Four Injured in Failed Prison Break in Southeastern Chad

Two inmates were killed and four others injured during an attempted prison break on Sunday, May 18, at the Amtiman remand center in southeastern Chad.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. and was swiftly contained by prison guards, preventing any successful escapes, according to security sources.

This latest outbreak of prison violence comes just weeks after a deadly mutiny at the Mongo prison in April, which resulted in the deaths of four inmates and the escape of over 130 prisoners.

The Amtiman incident highlights ongoing security challenges within Chad’s penitentiary system.
