Mali’s President, General Assimi Goïta, received the presidents of the legislative bodies of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso at the Koulouba Palace on October 7, 2025, marking a new step in strengthening the institutional foundation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
The meeting, led by Mali’s National Transitional Council President, Lieutenant General Malick Diaw, and Niger’s Consultative Council President, Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, focused on deepening parliamentary cooperation and advancing plans for the establishment of the future AES Parliament, whose draft texts were validated in Ouagadougou last month.
Created in July 2024, the AES unites Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso around shared goals of security, governance, and development.
The Bamako discussions reaffirmed the countries’ commitment to building common institutions under the motto “One Space – One People – One Destiny.” Following their joint withdrawal from ECOWAS earlier this year, the three nations aim to harmonize economic policies and launch joint infrastructure projects.
The meeting underscored growing cohesion among Sahelian states and the AES’s emergence as a key political and strategic framework for regional sovereignty and stability.
