AES Unveils Official Flag to Strengthen Regional Integration

The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) officially unveiled its flag today, just weeks after exiting the ECOWAS bloc.

Malian Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maïga, explained at the unveiling ceremony that the green colour symbolizes hope and prosperity, reflecting the vast natural resources within the confederation.

The AES flag, rectangular in shape with a green background, prominently features the Confederation’s logo at its center. This symbolic step is part of a broader effort to deepen regional integration.

AES President, General Assimi Goïta, used the occasion to reassure citizens that concrete measures will be implemented to ensure the free movement of people and goods within the confederal space.

This development aligns with the formal withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). To facilitate the transition, existing national passports will remain valid until their expiration, with an option to replace them with new AES documents according to established procedures.
