Burkina Faso Suspends 205 More Associations In Crackdown

The government of Burkina Faso has suspended 205 additional associations, intensifying a wave of administrative measures that has affected several hundred organizations in less than a month.

According to a decree signed by Emile Zerbo, the suspensions are due to the failure of these associations to renew their governing bodies in line with legal and statutory requirements.

Authorities specified that during the suspension period, only activities aimed at regularizing their status will be permitted, with reinstatement dependent on obtaining a renewal certificate.

This move follows earlier actions taken in April, when 359 associations were suspended on April 21 for similar reasons, and 118 organizations were dissolved on April 15, banning their activities nationwide.

In total, more than 680 associations have been suspended or dissolved within three weeks, marking a significant tightening of regulatory oversight on civil society organizations in the country.
