The Burkinabè government has approved the creation of a Higher Military Education College as part of its broader efforts to strengthen national security and enhance the professionalism of its armed forces.
The decision was adopted during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, 14 May 2025. The new institution will operate under the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.
According to the Minister of State for Defence, General Célestin Simporé, the college will serve as a training ground for a new generation of military leaders, equipping them with advanced skills in strategy, command, crisis management, and geopolitics.
The institution also aims to tailor its programmes to reflect the evolving security landscape of both Burkina Faso and the broader sub-region.
In addition to bolstering national defence, the college is expected to promote sub-regional and regional cooperation by admitting officers from neighbouring and other African countries. General Simporé noted that this inclusive approach would contribute to shared stability across the continent.
