The Chadian government has announced the immediate termination of its partnership with the South African NGO African Parks Network (APN), ending a 15-year collaboration that began in 2010 with the management of Zakouma National Park.
The Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development said the decision also affects agreements renewed in 2017 and 2022, which extended APN’s role to the Zakouma Large Functional Ecosystem and the Ennedi Nature and Cultural Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Authorities cited several reasons for ending the collaboration, including rising poaching incidents, insufficient investment in infrastructure and conservation, and non-compliance with key contractual terms.

The ministry also pointed to strained cooperation between APN and public institutions, describing the NGO’s conduct as disrespectful toward the government.
Despite the decision, Chad reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its biodiversity and expressed openness to new partnerships that align with national priorities.
African Parks Network has not yet commented on the government’s decision.
