The Ivorian government has strongly denied any involvement in the recently foiled coup attempt in Burkina Faso, calling on the Burkinabè authorities to provide concrete proof to support their claims.
Speaking after the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, 23 April, Ivorian government spokesman Amadou Coulibaly denounced the repeated and unsubstantiated allegations made against his country.
He reiterated that Côte d’Ivoire firmly rejects any association with the failed plot and instead reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to enhancing security cooperation with its neighbour.
The minister’s remarks followed a televised statement by Burkina Faso’s Security Minister, Mahamadou Sana, alleging that those involved in the coup had fled to Côte d’Ivoire and that the operation was allegedly coordinated from Abidjan.
In response, Ivorian authorities have demanded credible evidence to support the accusations. They reiterated their commitment to regional peace and collaboration, highlighting the historical, cultural, and human ties shared between both nations.
In February, Ivorian Defence Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara had emphasised Côte d’Ivoire’s interest in launching joint patrols with Burkina Faso to secure shared border regions against terrorist threats. “Côte d’Ivoire cannot fall out with Burkina Faso, and vice versa,” he noted, underscoring the importance of dialogue in maintaining regional stability.
