Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have gathered in Abuja to fast-track efforts in strengthening the ECOWAS Standby Force (SSF), a crucial step toward enhancing regional peace and security.
The five-day summit, organized by the Peace Support Operations Division, brings together government experts, military officials, and security specialists from across member states. Their goal is to refine and validate key policies that will improve peacekeeping capabilities across the region.
This initiative aligns with the 2020–2024 Action Plan for the Eradication of Terrorism, which will be adapted to address evolving security threats in West Africa.
Discussions at the meeting will focus on logistical and operational frameworks, ensuring the SSF is equipped to respond swiftly to crises and sustain long-term peace efforts.
At the conclusion of the summit, the validated policies will serve as a strategic roadmap for strengthening regional security and reinforcing ECOWAS’s commitment to stability and conflict resolution.
