The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through its Regional Competition Authority (ERCA), has renewed its commitment to supporting Ghana in the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive Competition and Consumer Protection Law.
An 11-member ERCA delegation led by Executive Director Dr. Simeon Konan Koffi met with Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in Accra on September 9, 2025.
The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation to promote transparent and competitive markets across the subregion while strengthening Ghana’s institutional and policy frameworks to ensure fair competition and consumer welfare.
Both parties explored avenues for technical assistance, policy harmonization, and capacity building to establish a strong national competition authority in line with ECOWAS Vision 2050, which prioritizes regional integration and market fairness. Dr. Koffi emphasized ECOWAS’ commitment to fostering a balanced trading environment through knowledge sharing and standardization.
Minister Ofosu-Adjare welcomed the partnership, describing it as a timely boost to Ghana’s ongoing trade and market governance reforms.
The initiative underscores ECOWAS’ broader goal of creating an integrated and competitive regional market that advances economic efficiency, consumer protection, and inclusive growth.
