Authorities in Tanzania have arrested four Chinese nationals in connection with the kidnapping of two businessmen abducted earlier this month in Dar es Salaam.
According to police, 64-year-old Weiyi Chen and 44-year-old Liang Xiolo were attacked by a group of seven individuals on the night of May 14, 2026, near the PSSSF twin towers before being taken to an undisclosed location.
Investigators later identified two vehicles allegedly used during the operation — a Toyota Alphard and a Toyota Harrier — both reportedly carrying irregular registration plates commonly associated with criminal activities.
The victims were rescued on May 16 during a special police operation at Mbezi beach in the Kinondoni district, where they were discovered with visible injuries. Police subsequently arrested four suspects identified as Fan Zhong, Deng Anging, Zhang Jianjun and Deng Qiang.
Speaking at a press briefing, Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander Jumanne Muliro described the kidnapping as a carefully organized crime targeting wealthy individuals, adding that investigations remain ongoing to identify additional accomplices and determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
