Gambian President Adama Barrow received Oumar Wade in Banjul as part of efforts to strengthen defense and security cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to a statement from the Gambian presidency, the meeting focused on reinforcing the long-standing relations between The Gambia and Senegal through closer military collaboration and regular consultations.
President Barrow praised Admiral Wade for choosing The Gambia as his first official foreign destination since his appointment, describing the move as a reflection of the strong historical and cultural ties shared by both nations.
During the discussions, President Barrow emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in maintaining regional peace and stability, while also welcoming progress made on border-related issues.
Admiral Wade, for his part, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, stability and strong cooperation between the two countries.
The Gambian leader also extended congratulations to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, recalling his commitment to maintaining good neighbourly relations with The Gambia.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen security collaboration in response to shared regional challenges across the subregion.
