Ghana Signs MoU with Africa CDC to Strengthen Response to Endemic Threats

The Ghanaian authorities are strengthening their approach to endemic threats with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on data sharing and cross-border epidemiological surveillance with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

According to the official statement, the meeting between Ghanaian officials and the Africa CDC delegation – led by Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya – focused on enhancing health security in Ghana and across the sub-region.

By signing the MoU, Ghana is consolidating its national health security systems and aligning with the broader continental strategy to bolster capabilities for detecting and responding to epidemic threats.

The agreement is expected to significantly improve the country’s epidemic intelligence capabilities, as Africa continues to build stronger surveillance and response systems for health emergencies.

The statement added that Ghana is committed to learning from past experiences and preparing to address future health challenges and acknowledged the invaluable support provided by Africa CDC in recent years.

Dr. Kaseya emphasized the importance of African countries strengthening self-sufficiency in health care, reflecting a unified continental approach to building resilience against common health threats.

This initiative is part of a continent-wide strategy aimed at enhancing early detection and rapid response to epidemics, and it highlights the growing cooperation among African nations to pool resources in the face of shared public health challenges.
