The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has urged President John Mahama and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine to promptly issue a public statement addressing concerns raised by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The Chief Justice, during her first public address on Wednesday, highlighted alleged procedural breaches, human rights violations, and what she termed a coordinated effort to remove her unjustly in the face of three petitions seeking her dismissal.
In response, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu held a press conference on June 25, describing her remarks as regrettable while reaffirming the President’s commitment to the rule of law.
However, the Minority expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response.
Speaking at a parliamentary press briefing, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah criticized the continued silence of both the President and Attorney General, insisting that they must publicly respond to the Chief Justice’s claims.
