Guinea-Bissau has reaffirmed its strong support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region following talks held in Rabat between the two countries’ foreign ministers. Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Bernardo Vieira, reiterated his country’s “firm and constant” backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity during a joint appearance with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
He also described Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute.
The Bissau-Guinean minister further welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, which he said recognizes the Moroccan autonomy plan as a serious and lasting basis for resolving the issue within Moroccan sovereignty.
Vieira also praised Morocco’s role in promoting dialogue, stability and international cooperation, while emphasizing the longstanding friendship and strategic ties between the two countries.
Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and maintaining close coordination on regional and international matters.
