Mali Responds to U.S. Cancellation of 8.8 Billion FCFA Grant

The Malian government has officially responded to the U.S. decision to revoke a $14 million grant (approximately 8.8 billion FCFA) that was meant to support social cohesion efforts in the country.

In a statement broadcast on state-owned television Monday, Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation addressed concerns raised by the U.S. Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE).

The ministry criticized the use of development aid as a tool for political pressure, reaffirming Mali’s stance against any external interference that could destabilize the nation.

The government also rejected accusations that U.S. assistance was being misused to fuel violence, insisting that Mali remains committed to peace and security in the region.

This decision follows the Trump administration’s broader policy of cutting aid to several nations over concerns about mismanagement and alleged links to extremist activities.
