The Nigerian Police have arrested Sunday Kotin, a fugitive from Benin Republic wanted for crimes including cross-border banditry, arms smuggling, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking.
He was captured in a discreet operation by operatives of the Police National Central Bureau of Interpol Nigeria in Idi Iroko, Ogun State, after a request from Interpol Benin.
Authorities confirmed that Kotin had fled to Nigeria while seven members of his criminal network are already facing trial in Benin. Following his arrest, he was interrogated and officially handed over to officials of Interpol Cotonou.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers involved, stressing that Nigeria remains committed to regional security cooperation and the rule of law.
He emphasized that the country will not serve as a safe haven for fugitives, pledging continued collaboration with international law enforcement partners to ensure peace, justice, and security.
The Police reiterated their dedication to tackling transnational crime and preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty through effective cross-border partnerships.
