Nigeria’s NDLEA and US DEA Forge Stronger Alliance to Combat Drug Trafficking

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have pledged to deepen their strategic partnership, in a renewed commitment to tackling drug trafficking and substance abuse.

This was the focal point of discussions during a courtesy visit by Ms Daphne Morrison, the newly appointed DEA Country Attaché to Nigeria, who met with NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), at the Agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on Friday, 23 May 2025.

Ms Morrison commended the NDLEA for its longstanding cooperation with the DEA and expressed her enthusiasm for continued collaboration.

Key areas of future collaboration include enhanced training for NDLEA’s Special Operations Units and the execution of joint operations targeting critical areas of drug trafficking across Nigeria and beyond.

General Marwa welcomed Ms Morrison and praised the DEA’s consistent support, particularly in providing operational equipment, capacity-building, and intelligence sharing.

He also highlighted the NDLEA’s recent expansion in workforce and operational infrastructure, which has contributed to significant progress in both drug supply reduction and public health interventions.
