Nigeria’s President Tinubu Heads to Rome for Aqaba Process Counter-Terrorism Summit

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Rome to attend the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting, a high-level counter-terrorism forum jointly organized by Jordan and Italy with a focus on strengthening security cooperation in the subregion.

The initiative, launched by King Abdullah II of Jordan in 2015, seeks to enhance collaboration among nations to address terrorism and transnational threats affecting Nigeria and the wider subregion.

The meeting, scheduled to begin on October 14, will bring together African leaders, senior intelligence and military officials, as well as representatives of international organizations to assess the region’s security landscape.

Discussions will focus on tackling the spread of terrorist networks, maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, and online radicalization.

President Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders to enhance collaboration on regional and cross-border security.

He is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister of State Bianca Ojukwu, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, NIA Director-General Mohammed Mohammed, and other senior officials.
