The Senegalese government has launched the Food System Resilience Program (PRSA – FSRP), a major initiative aimed at ensuring sustainable food security across the country.
Chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Dr. Mabouba Diagne, the launch ceremony took place over the weekend.
Supported by 153 billion FCFA in funding from the State of Senegal, the World Bank, and IFAD, the six-year program focuses on four strategic areas: improving agricultural production, integrating agricultural markets, strengthening governance in the agricultural sector, and developing early warning systems to anticipate crises.
Key projects under the PRSA include the creation of 1,000 hectares of modern farms for the newly launched Community Agricultural Cooperatives (CACs), the development of 4,700 hectares of irrigated land in the Senegal River Valley, and expanded support for agricultural financing, livestock farming, and scientific research.
The program aims to directly benefit over 600,000 people, including 240,000 women, and tackles critical challenges such as climate change, sustainable water management, modernization of agriculture, and nutritional security.
Through this initiative, Senegal seeks to bolster the resilience of its producers and establish itself as a leader in food security and sustainability.
