Togo Urges Global Action on Congo Crisis at Paris Peace Conference

Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, has urged the international community to take decisive action in addressing the worsening humanitarian and security crisis in the Great Lakes region of Africa, calling it a “human, regional, and moral tragedy” that the world can no longer ignore.

Speaking at the International Conference for Peace and Prosperity in the Great Lakes Region, held Monday in Paris, Dussey called for a collective and sustained response to end the cycle of violence, displacement, and poverty in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and neighboring states.

Warning against allowing the suffering in the region to continue unnoticed, Dussey emphasized that the silence, absence, or inaction of the international community are no longer tolerable.

He praised humanitarian workers “who, despite the danger, continue to serve life,” and stressed that the gathering must not become “a moment for speeches, but an opportunity to act together.

He outlined an approach centered on bringing people together, promoting reconciliation, and linking peace to human dignity.

He reaffirmed that Togo, working under the framework of the African Union, would remain committed to fostering dialogue and stability across the continent.
