Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, announced on September 18, 2025, that a large delegation of Afro-descendants will visit Ouagadougou from October 26 to November 8, 2025.
The group, numbering around 1,200 members, represents the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI) and will express its support for President Ibrahim Traoré during the visit.
According to the foreign minister, the delegation will hold official meetings, engage directly with Burkina Faso’s private sector, and participate in conferences and workshops. These events will bring together academics, artists, and business leaders, while also including visits to historical and cultural sites.
The initiative aims to strengthen historic and cultural bonds between Africa and its diaspora, promote exchanges between African traditions and diaspora cultures, and provide Afro-descendants with opportunities to reconnect with their roots through remembrance and heritage ceremonies.
In addition to cultural and historical engagement, the visit will explore economic opportunities in strategic sectors, with prospects for direct investment.
