Guinea-Bissau Prime Minister Evacuated to Dakar After Sudden Illness

Guinea-Bissau’s Prime Minister Braima Camará was medically evacuated to Dakar on Monday evening after collapsing shortly after being sworn in as a member of the Council of State.

He was first taken to the main military hospital in Bissau, where doctors diagnosed a drop in blood pressure linked to fatigue, before President Umaro Sissoco Embaló ordered his transfer aboard a special military flight for a full medical assessment in Senegal.

The evacuation comes at a sensitive political moment, with Camará, appointed on August 7 to replace Rui Duarte de Barros, playing a central role in government just months ahead of the November presidential election.

Authorities have not indicated how long he will remain in Dakar, but stressed the need to safeguard his health to ensure continuity of his official duties.
