Ghana and Japan have signed a new grant agreement worth ¥402 million to support advanced education and capacity building for Ghanaian professionals. The funding is part of Japan’s Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) initiative.
The signing, which took place at Ghana’s Ministry of Finance in Accra, marked the third batch of the programme’s fourth phase.
Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, thanked Japan for its continued partnership. He said the initiative aligns with Ghana’s commitment to building a skilled public sector and strengthening national institutions.
Dr Forson also noted that Ghana’s economic indicators are improving and that sovereign credit ratings are expected to reflect this progress in the near future.
Representing Japan, JICA’s Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki Katsura reaffirmed her country’s long-term commitment to Ghana’s development. She highlighted the scholarship’s role in preparing future leaders and supporting reform efforts.
The agreement reinforces a growing partnership between the two countries, with a shared focus on education, human capital, and sustainable development.
